Master Agreement Between the Government of the Province of Alberta and the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees
LETTER OF UNDERSTANDING # 16LONG TERM DISABILITY INCOME CONTINUANCE PLAN REVIEW
BETWEEN:
THE CROWN IN RIGHT OF ALBERTA(The Employer)
- and -
THE ALBERTA UNION OF PROVINCIAL EMPLOYEES(The Union)
Whereas the Parties have identified that the Long Term Disability Income Continuance Plan (LTD Plan) Letter of Understanding (LOU) is outdated and the Parties are committed to discussing and reviewing this matter;
The Parties agree as follows:
1.
During the life of the Collective Agreement the Parties agree to review and update the existing “Letter of Understanding – LTD Plan" that was signed on August 19, 2009 and is currently still in effect.
2.
The review shall commence with the Parties each appointing their representatives and communicating this to the other Party in writing. Each Party may appoint up to five (5) representatives, unless otherwise agreed by the Parties.
3.
The Parties will meet to exchange and discuss their opening proposals within one (1) month from the date of signing of the Collective Agreement.
4.
The Parties will meet as necessary to review proposals, working towards a recommended LOU that would replace the “Letter of Understanding – LTD Plan" signed on August 19, 2009. The Employer's and the Union's representatives will recommend the new LOU for approval to the Public Service Commissioner and the President of AUPE, respectively. This recommendation for approval will be made within six (6) months from the date in clause 3.
5.
Timelines in this LOU may be extended with mutual agreement between the Parties.
6.
Each Party will be responsible for their representatives' salary and any travel costs associated with these meetings.
7.
The Parties will continue to follow the existing “Letter of Understanding – LTD Plan" signed on August 19, 2009 until a replacement is agreed to.
8.
This LOU will remain in force until the recommended replacement LOU is signed.
